Listening to: Cantarella - Kaito Version
NO SERIOUSLY. I AM BACK FROM THE DEAD.
Its been almost a year when I stopped cosplaying.. WOW. I feel so excited and nervous all at the same time. I'm attending this year's Best of Anime 2013 at the SMX Convention Center in SM Mall of Asia. Last year, I debuted my Sakura-Hime cosplay in this event, and now I choose to debut another version of my main character, Miku.
So I was very lucky to have cosplayed her before, which makes some of the accessories and other stuff very very useful to me for this next cosplay. The challenge for me this time was styling her wig.
Base had no problems, since All I needed was to just cut the bangs and washed them (now that wasn't so had) the real challenge was styling the twintails.
Her twintails are loooooong so if you want to style her wig, I suggest either having styled to a wig expert or do this method a week or so before a convention. In my case, I needed to curl it. YIKES.
I had a trial and error time last week, when I tried using a curling iron (my wig is lucaille, so its heat resistant) and unfortunately that was a really hard method. it dint curl anything at all, even with the hairspray and all.
I was getting desperate so I really rallied all the help I could get both from people I knew and from the internet. Then I tried a personal method I use on my hair when I curl it.
Have you guys heard about the 'Paperbag Method?"
Its basically using strips of paper/paperbag to hold the curled hair. Like hair rollers. Only, the paper will absorb the water as it dries (the wig needs to be dampish-to-dry to do this method) and once the hair dries, you can just let down the hair for hairspray. I did it a little different though, I had the twintails damp, and before rolling the wig strands on the paper, I already sprayed each strand with hairspray. (HEY, I WAS REALLY REALLYYY DESPERATE, and I was literally praying that this method would work!) And Voila! It did <3
The process takes at least 2-4 days, because you really want the hair to dry up really well, so that the curls will retain their places on the wig. You want to just let them sit as is before removing the paper curlers. Since this was my first time doing this on my wig, I was very very nervous. But it turned out quite well! I now have kind of a curly-beach wavy texture and its really really pretty and its perfect for my cosplay on BOA.
The Miku Version I'm going to cosplay is her Cantarella Gown version. AND YES, It has a lot of details, its crazy I know lol (that's why my past Miku accessories are a life saver) Although her hair there is straight, I made my own revisions, because I really think having it a little bit curly would really suit the part. And I think it will work out even better. *wink wink*
I miss everyone from the cosplay community and Im so happy to actually come back for at least this time. I have butterflies in my tummy everytime I think about it. Haha!
Well, here's to hoping BOA 2013 will be fun!!
